Overview

Someburros, a growing and dynamic restaurant group, is seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to join our accounting team. Reporting directly to the Accounting Manager, the Staff Accountant will play a critical role in managing the core accounting tasks for assigned group of restaurants, owning secondary financial processes and reconciliations, analyzing P&Ls and balance sheet accounts, supporting new revenue streams, and streamlining processes to scale for growth. The ideal candidate has an accounting/finance degree, experience in multi-unit groups (restaurants, hospitality, or retail), and a proactive growth mindset. Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Core Accounting Responsibilities for assigned group of restaurants:

Demonstrates full accounting ownership of the P&Ls and balance sheets for assigned restaurants.
Collaborates with the Area Coaches and restaurant operators to ensure that in-store accounting tasks are completed accurately and timely to support smooth fiscal period closes.
Review and approve Daily Sales Summary from the POS and reconcile sales weekly.
Oversee cash handling including paid outs, deposits, petty cash reconciliations, and monitoring cash over/short
Ensures all invoices are inputted timely and accurately (including item mapping which impacts inventory).
Performs accounts receivable activities/reconciliations including daily credit card deposits, cash deposits, third-party delivery partners, and school orders.
Records and matches all bank account activity.
Oversees, reviews, and approves monthly bank reconciliations for assigned restaurants
Adheres consistently to daily, weekly, and periodic accounting checklists to ensure all tasks and entries are completed as part of the close process (13-period accounting).
Analyzes and provides commentary for variances to budget and prior year for assigned restaurant P&Ls.
Ensures balance sheet reconciliations are completed and analyzed timely and accurately.
Researches and resolves AP Aging variances and past due items.

Secondary Responsibilities:

Owns bank reconciliation of the main operating account.
Takes ownership of payroll and tip accounting processes. Collaborates with HR to understand, research, and propose plans to resolve GL impacting payroll discrepancies.
Develops processes and owns lease accounting activities including lease agreement review, tracking rent escalations, and reviewing NNN reconciliations.
Supports Accounts Payable activities including new vendor set ups and reviewing W9s.
Supports commissary accounting processes.
Supports developing newer accounting workstreams such as stadium concessions and special events.
Supports fixed asset accounting processes and construction spend reporting.
Supports financial leadership team in ad hoc tasks, projects, and initiatives to create new accounting processes, streamline existing processes (e.g. going paperless), and improve reconciliations.
Supports in annual processes like 1099 reporting and requests for the CPA review and tax return filings.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
A minimum of 2 years of accounting professional experience is required.
A strong grasp of GAAP accounting principles and financial reporting standards is required.
Multi-unit restaurant accounting experience preferred.
Experience with Restaurant365, Toast, and Paylocity is preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and Google Workspace (G Suite Apps).
IT savvy.
Strong attention to detail with a commitment to error free work.
Exceptionally organized and efficient with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills (thoughtful, yet to the point).

Strong skills in proactive ownership, critical thinking, analysis, problem solving, and professional skepticism.
Experience with coaching and mentorship with a natural ability to translate accounting reports to non-accountants.

Work Schedule:

Full Time, 40+ hours per week (whatever hours are necessary to meet deadlines)
Monday – Friday
In/Out times are flexible but must be in the office between 9am – 3pm
