    The Department of Economic Security, Division of Employment and Rehabilitation Services (DERS) strengthens Arizona communities by bridging and minimizing gaps to employment and independence.

    DES is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Reentry Employment Counselor with the Workforce Solutions Administration (WSA). This position is responsible for providing a wide range of employment related services to engage, advise, prepare, and match job seekers with Arizona businesses and enable job seekers to: get a job, maintain or strengthen current employment, or build a sustainable career. Services are provided through 1:1 or group interactions and will include client facing, virtual/digital or telephonic means. Services provided will be for reentry program and will focus on incarcerated and formerly incarcerated populations.

    Must be willing and able to work in correctional facilities, parole/probation offices, community agencies, residential centers; and work outside of traditional 8-5 work hours.

    This position will be required to utilize a business methodology that drives continuous improvement.

    Travel may be required to prisons, residential reentry centers and conferences.

    Travel will be required for State business. If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver's license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver's license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on State business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on State business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.11).

    Job Duties:
    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Assess skills, abilities, work history, employment barriers and career interests, retention follow up; develop employment plans; determine eligibility for services; provide information on Labor Market, In-Demand industries, and occupations; and identify and coordinate with formal and informal resources to remove barriers, develop skills, and achieve certifications.
    • Use databases to register & refer job seekers; complete and maintain accurate records and reports for performance and reporting requirements in accordance with quality and quantity standards mandated by various laws, rules and federal regulations.
    • Provide customer service, program information to job seekers, colleagues, and the business community; maintain positive working relationships with local partners, community organizations and other agency personnel; and resolution of customer issues and complaints. Travel to locations within assigned area is required.
    • Attend required trainings and meetings.

    • Experience in a correctional facility and community reentry/corrections.

    Pre-Employment Requirements:
    • Must complete all corrections designated training within 1 month of hire and remain current with all corrections required training.
    • Successfully pass background and reference checks; employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.

    State employees are required to participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS), the State sponsored retirement contribution plan and the Long-Term Disability (LTD) program after a 27-week waiting period.     Nurturing Parenting Practitioner:
    Family Consultants in the Nurturing Parenting Program provide home-based and community-based services in Maricopa and Pinal Counties to families referred by the Department of Child Safety (DCS). Our consultants work with these families to promote positive parenting ideas and techniques.

    Duties include:

    -Meets with parents and children, in the home or community, once a week to provide parenting education, parent-child observation during activities, and debriefing.

    -Connects families with needed resources.
    -Provides direct service to program participants using the Nurturing Parenting Program curriculum. Administer, score, and interpret the assessment tools included in the curriculum.

    Family Support Counselors have the natural ability to form positive supportive relationships with children in caring, family and community based environments using ways that adhere to the AZ 12 Principles. Assists with the coordination of case management services and communication of community-based resources. Performs procedures to support clinical operations including problem resolution and customer service; documentation, facilitates Child and Family Teams, and performs other duties as assigned, which may include mentoring children, assisting with living skills, providing respite for families, and other supportive services.     Essential Responsibilities:

    Promote and protect the health, safety, and emotional well being of children and families by assisting, supporting and educating them to prevent illness and avoid unsafe activities.
    Provide mentoring, life and social skill building to children and their families in their home and in community-based settings.
    Collaborate with various stakeholder groups.
    Provide psychosocial rehabilitation living skills training in children's homes or community-based settings.
    Provide respite for families and assist with living skills in the home community-based settings.
    In-home family and individual counseling.
    Work with the child, family, and any support network to identify areas of risk and to create safeguards specific to these concerns.
    Assists the CFT in crisis stabilization and transitional moves to and from higher levels of care.
    Consistently address challenging behaviors proactively, respectfully, and by avoiding the use of aversive or deprivation intervention techniques in family-centered, strengths-based manners.

    What you’ll provide:

    High School Diploma/GED is required.
    BHT level as stipulated by AZDHS/BHS is required.
    Experience working with children with behavioral needs and different diagnosis.
    Experience working with parents on parenting skills, modifying behavior and modeling parenting style.

    Previous use of behavior charts and behavior modification skills.
